Hi Everyone,

This is my first blog since I’ve moved to Gig Harbor Washington, and it’s about one of my favorite topics – places for pet photography. Last fall I started walking the Cushman Trail several times a week and it was hard not to notice a trail off of it leading into some nice woods. There is a scenic, old barn near the entrance that marks the location. I later found out this is part of Wilkinson Farm Park. There are woods, a little meadow and even a big pond. The trails in the wooded area are lined with logs that have lots of wonderful green moss. In the right light, they seem to almost glow. This is a wonderful setting for dog photography, as you will see from a couple of photos. The meadow area has a nice bench at one end and the pond is home to a few ducks and egrets. I was told there are owls in the wooded area, but I haven’t seen them yet. Finally, this location has a nice community garden, with some of the produce being donated to a good cause, the Gig Harbor Peninsula FISH Food Bank.

Getting Photos of Milo!

I love to find great places to photograph pets. When I find a great spot, I like to go there and practice. So, at the end of January, we went down to the wooded area and took some photos using our plush toy dog Archie. Archie is very well behaved and stays exactly where I put him…hah! As we were practicing, we were approached by a nice couple, Jennifer and Richard, with a beautiful labradoodle. They found out what we were doing and asked if we wanted to practice with a real dog? Of course, we jumped at the chance! His name is Milo and, not only is he very handsome, he is also a very good, well behaved dog. Since everything was already set up, it was easy to quickly get some nice photos of him. We made some new friends in just a couple minutes. They told us Milo is well known in the community and is frequently seen down at Wilkinson Farm Park and on the Cushman Trail.

I am sure we will do many great pet photography sessions at this great location!
